Sometimes someone joins the team who, from the very first conversation, gives the impression of knowing the industry from the inside. Not from PowerPoint slides, but from conversations at reception desks, from long days of support, from discussions about interfaces that, once again, aren’t working as expected.
So jemand ist Laureen.
She recently joined our team at HotelNetSolutions and brings over ten years of experience in the hotel software industry. It’s a perspective we appreciate: close to the hotels and close to the technology..
We sat down with her. Asked a few questions. And listened a little.
Where are you from and what did you do before HotelNetSolutions?
I live in the beautiful city of Schwerte. Not everyone would agree, but I love my city. Schwerte lies southeast of Dortmund on the Ruhr River, belongs to the eastern Ruhr area, and has around 46,000 inhabitants. I was born in Hesse, but when I was eight years old, my family and I moved to Schwerte, and I’ve mostly stayed there ever since.
I completed my hotel management training in Hamm. Afterwards, I worked for a little over a year at reception in Velbert. However, since I could never truly leave my hometown, I was drawn back to Dortmund, where I completed my studies in business administration specializing in the hotel and restaurant industry at WIHOGA.
During my studies, I realized that I felt most at home in the hotel software industry. Therefore, after graduating, I joined a German PMS provider in Dortmund. There, I worked in several roles, from support and development to team leadership of the integration department.
A good place to see what hotels really need. And what sometimes looks very different in practice than on paper.
What appeals to you about your new role at HotelNetSolutions?
Having gained over ten years of experience from the perspective of a PMS provider, I would say I have a very good understanding of what hotels are looking for and need in terms of interfaces. I am now looking forward to bringing this knowledge to HNS and helping to satisfy our customers.
Furthermore, I am very much looking forward to working with my new team to develop and implement processes together.
At HotelNetSolutions, you’ll start as a Scrum Master. What does that mean exactly?
This role is new to our development department and I’m really looking forward to it.
As a Scrum Master, I support the development team in collaborating effectively, quickly resolving obstacles such as open questions or unclear requirements, and continuously improving our workflows. Open communication, enjoyment of working together, and achieving strong results as a team are important to me.
Furthermore, I would like to be a central point of contact for various departments when there are questions regarding development projects. My goal is to support the team as best as possible so that their work runs smoothly.
And what about outside of work?
I’ve been playing handball since I was seven, but after two cruciate ligament tears and with my three-year-old daughter, I’ve switched from playing to coaching. Every Monday afternoon, a friend and I coach children between the ages of two and four, introducing them to the joy of movement, especially movement with a ball.
In my free time, I absolutely love traveling with my family. In winter, we head to the slopes for snowboarding, and in summer we adore Denmark, especially the endless beaches of the North Sea. But we’re also fascinated by the other Scandinavian countries. Our holidays help me clear my head, recharge my batteries, and simply switch off.
We are delighted to have Laureen on our team. Not only because of her experience, but also because of her blend of curiosity, down-to-earth nature, and desire to make things better together.
Welcome to HNS, Laureen.
